The feud between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk has reached a new level after the tech mogul came forward with a new political bombshell.
Specifically, the president blasted the Tesla CEO for launching a “ridiculous” America Party that threatens to disrupt the traditional two-party system.
The rift between these former allies has exploded into public view after Musk’s surprise political announcement.
President Trump did not mince words when addressing his former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader’s political ambitions.
In a scathing Truth Social post, the president expressed his disappointment with Musk’s recent behavior.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a train wreck over the past five weeks,” President Trump wrote, making clear his feelings about Musk’s political venture.
The president further explained why third parties like Musk’s are problematic in the American political landscape.
He said, “I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party,” and “The Democrats have lost their way but it’s always been a two party system and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion.”
“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them,” President Trump wrote.
The rift between the two men began over disagreements on President Trump’s tax and spending bill.
Musk claimed the legislation negated cost savings achieved by his DOGE initiative.
Tensions escalated further when President Trump ended tax breaks for electric vehicles, directly impacting Musk’s Tesla business interests.
Musk responded to the president’s criticism by conducting a poll on his social media platform X, writing: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!”
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he continued.
President Trump also revealed that Musk had tried to exert influence over government appointments.
He added that the SpaceX CEO had previously requested a friend be appointed to run NASA.
While Musk claims his America Party will focus initially on House and Senate races rather than the presidency, many conservatives worry this could split the Republican vote and inadvertently help Democrats win critical races.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent offered a pointed suggestion to the SpaceX founder: “I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone.”
President Trump clarified that he had been transparent with Musk about his policies from the beginning.
“When Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate – It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that,” he said.
The impact of this high-profile conservative split remains to be seen, but many MAGA supporters are standing firmly with President Trump.
They view Musk’s new party as a potential threat to Republican unity at a time when the left is plotting to regain control of Congress.
