During a town hall in Queens, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) encountered opposition from some attendees while presenting the advantages of the Green New Deal, Fox News reports, cited by The Daily Caller.

AOC was there to promote the left’s environmental justice initiatives and climate policies included in the Green New Deal but was interrupted by hecklers loudly accusing her of favoring illegal immigrants over her own constituents.

One heckler declared his intention to compete against Ocasio-Cortez for her congressional seat.

A tweet from Fox News described the confrontation, as follows,

“‘BOO’ YORK CITY: “All you care about is illegal aliens and their votes!” Hecklers confront AOC at a town hall, with one challenging the Democratic lawmaker to a debate.”

“My name is Jonathan David Rinaldi and I’m running for Congress against AOC. The Green New Deal is a scam,” declared the most outspoken heckler, Jonathan David Rinaldi.

He alleged that officials are exploiting the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), responsible for the city’s public housing, to improperly house illegal immigrants at the expense of taxpayers.

“They’re giving the NYCHA apartments away, they’re giving illegal aliens $10,000 a day … I want you to debate me, AOC, debate me!” Rinaldi yelled.

Another attendee slammed Ocasio-Cortez for not addressing immigration issues and accused her of neglecting her constituents in favor of illegal immigrants, labeling her a “disgrace.”

This heckler also mentioned a recent violent incident involving New York Police and migrants, challenging Ocasio-Cortez’s stance on immigration.

Despite the interruptions, supporters of Ocasio-Cortez responded with applause and chants of her initials, “AOC.”

After the hecklers were escorted out, the Democrat lawmaker addressed the audience claiming anti-immigrant sentiments were in the minority.

“We have seen the voices that are anti-immigrant in this country are very, very loud, but they are very, very few. And we have to look around and realize how many of us are here in support of our neighbors and an acknowledgment of the fact that virtually all of us are descendants of immigrants, or indigenous people or enslaved people,” AOC asserted.
