Marking the end of an era for many conservative Americans, a Christian TV icon has passed away at 79 after battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Outspoken and beloved conservative star and “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, traditional values, and a successful business that resonated with millions across the country.
Robertson’s family announced his passing, with his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson sharing the heartbreaking news on social media.
Known for his rugged appearance and no-nonsense attitude, Phil became a household name through the wildly popular A&E show.
It showcased the Robertson family’s duck call manufacturing business and their deeply rooted Christian lifestyle.
Korie Robertson stated:
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”
Long before becoming a television sensation, Robertson was a talented athlete who played quarterback at Louisiana Tech University, where NFL legend Terry Bradshaw served as his backup.
In 1972, he invented the Duck Commander duck call, building a hunting empire that would eventually lead to the creation of one of television’s most successful reality shows.
Throughout his time in the spotlight, Robertson never wavered from his conservative principles and Christian faith, even when facing backlash from the liberal media.
In 2013, he was briefly suspended by A&E for comments about homosexuality and sin during an interview with GQ magazine.
The suspension sparked national outrage from supporters who viewed the network’s decision as an attack on religious freedom.
“Phil Robertson was an American icon and an inspiring hero to millions of Americans,” expressed Turning Point USA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk.
Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also chimed in to say, “Phil Robertson was a living example of what God can do in all of our lives if we follow Him.”.
Robertson’s health had been deteriorating in recent years. His son Jase Robertson confirmed the Alzheimer’s diagnosis publicly in December.
The family had been open about his battle with multiple health issues, including a blood disorder, mini-strokes, and a fractured back. Despite these challenges, Phil maintained his characteristic resilience.
Beyond television fame, Robertson was an outspoken advocate for conservative causes.
He vocally opposed abortion and supported Republican political candidates, including both Ted Cruz and President Donald Trump.
His unapologetic defense of traditional family values and the Second Amendment endeared him to millions of conservative Americans.
The Robertson family has announced plans for a private service, with details of a public celebration of Phil’s life to be shared at a later date.
He is survived by his wife Marsha “Miss Kay” Carroway, his children, grandchildren, and a newly discovered daughter, Phyllis, whom he connected with in 2020 after learning of her existence from a past affair.
