(TheIndependentStar.com) – After years of being the liberals’ poster boy, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally decided to turn his back on the extreme leftist agenda by dropping his company’s fact-checking program.

Zuckerberg’s bombshell announcement signals a shift away from biased third-party censorship and toward a different type of content moderation.

This move aligns Meta with other tech giants and marks a major win for free expression supporters.

Specifically, Meta is replacing its controversial fact-checking program with a community-driven system similar to Elon Musk’s X platform.

This change will affect Meta’s flagship platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads, potentially transforming the landscape of online discourse.

Zuckerberg stated, “We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms.”

This shift comes as Meta and other tech companies align with the incoming Trump administration, signaling a return to conservative values in Silicon Valley.

The new approach seeks to empower users by allowing them to contribute to content moderation through “community notes.”

This system, which has been successful on X, involves users from different viewpoints agreeing on the context or clarifications for posts.

Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan expressed confidence in this method: “We’ve seen this approach work on X – where they empower their community to decide when posts are potentially misleading and need more context.”

This decision has been met with excitement from conservatives who have long criticized the bias in fact-checking systems.

Rep. Mike Lee of Utah noted, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me,” highlighting Americans’ skepticism towards so-called “expert” fact-checkers.

While Meta will continue to moderate content related to illegal activities such as drugs, terrorism and child exploitation, the company is taking a significant step back from policing political speech and opinions.

This move is seen as an attempt to repair relations with conservatives, including President-elect Donald Trump, who was banned from Facebook in 2021.

As part of this shift, Meta is also relocating its trust and safety content moderation team from California to Texas and other U.S. locations.

By empowering users and moving away from centralized content control, Meta is setting a new standard for social media platforms.
