(TheIndependentStar.com) – Using law enforcement at his will, a Georgia sheriff misused police resources for the unlikeliest reasons: a fast-food dispute.
Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens apparently believes his badge grants him special privileges at the drive-thru as he called in backup when his Burger King came out wrong.
Watch the video below.
The incident occurred on March 4, 2023, at a Burger King in Mableton, Georgia. It came to light thanks to body camera footage shared by Sheriff Owens’ election opponent, David Cavender.
The video exposes a disturbing abuse of power that should concern every law-abiding citizen who values responsible leadership.
According to reports, Sheriff Owens was off-duty and not in uniform and became frustrated when his food order was incorrect.
Instead of handling the situation like a regular customer, he allegedly cursed and raised his voice, causing frightened employees to lock the doors.
Undeterred by the clear sign to back off, Owens then made the shocking decision to call for backup.
In a display of excessive force, deputies reportedly arrived at the scene with sirens blaring and even ran red lights to reach their boss’ location.
Mike Dondelinger, who is running for Chief Deputy alongside Cavender, rightfully called out this incident as an “abuse of power.”
In an attempt to justify his actions, Sheriff Owens claimed he was merely filing a business complaint and did not use his law enforcement position to influence the situation.
However, the fact that he summoned on-duty officers to resolve his personal fast-food grievance speaks volumes about his judgment.
Owens’ background as the first African-American sheriff elected in Cobb County is even more concerning.
He now claims that this incident is being politicized for electoral gain. However, his response has been framed as a typical deflection tactic used by those who cannot defend their actions on merit.
Ultimately, this Burger King blunder is not just about a wrong order – it is about wrong priorities, wrong judgment and a wrong understanding of what it means to be a public servant.
