(TheIndependentStar.com) – A Michigan jury delivered a resounding victory for religious freedom by awarding $12.6 million to a woman who was fired for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
IT specialist Lisa Domski, who worked remotely, refused her employer’s aggressive vaccine policy because of her Catholic faith.
Despite posing no risk to workplace safety since she worked from home, Blue Cross Blue Shield simply decided to fire her.
The jury’s verdict sends a clear message: American workers will not be bullied into surrendering their constitutional rights.
The $12.6 million award includes a staggering $10 million in punitive damages, $1.7 million in lost pay and $1 million for non-economic damages.
The case also revealed a disturbing pattern of discrimination at Blue Cross Blue Shield.
According to Domski’s attorneys, the company’s so-called “religious accommodation process” was a sham designed to suppress religious beliefs and coerce employees into vaccination.
Even more alarming, the company reportedly denied over 500 other religious accommodation requests and fired hundreds of employees who refused the vaccine.
Domski’s attorney Jon Marko underscored the absurdity of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s position, saying his client “wasn’t a danger to anybody” even without the vaccine.
Domski worked 100% remotely during the pandemic and 75% remotely before COVID-19.
There was absolutely no reason to force her to choose between her religious beliefs and her livelihood.
In response to the lawsuit, Blue Cross Blue Shield claimed that Domski did not have a “sincerely held religious belief,” but the jury rejected the assertion.
The corporate giant is now crying foul and expressing disappointment with the verdict. It has also threatened an appeal.
