Following the revelation of electronic copies of classified documents being found in the laptop of an aide of former President Donald Trump, there have been many calling for Republicans to hold a new congressional hearing probing into the matter.

Representative Ted Lieu, a California Democrat, noted that House Republicans should hold a meeting similar to the one held this week concerning Hunter Biden’s laptop. Hunter Biden’s laptop case related to a New York Post article that had been suppressed prior to the 2020 election. Lieu took to Twitter on Friday to call for “MAGA Republicans” who “are obsessed about laptops” to proceed with a hearing on the Trump laptop that unlawfully contained classified information.

The laptop was turned over in December and January by Trump’s legal team, along with a number of documents with classified markings on them that had been found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. One of the documents handed over included an empty folder labeled, “Classified Evening Briefing.”

Trump’s lawyers were the ones to find the classified documents in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, as well as a laptop used by an unnamed aide, working for Save America PAC, which contained electronic copies of some of those same classified pages. The documents had been copied to both a thumb drive and the laptop without anyone realizing that they had classified markings on them.

Christopher Gibbs, chair of the nonprofit, Rural Voices USA, also tweeted out and tagged @Jim_Jordan asking whether there would also be a hearing on the laptop found.
