Former President Donald Trump and Cuccinelli had appeared to turn a page in their relationship after Cuccinelli was recruited by the Biden administration. However, it now appears that their alliance is not as strong as originally anticipated.

On Thursday, Cuccinelli, a former Virginia attorney general and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official under the Trump administration launched a new political action committee (PAC) focused on convincing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to place a bid on the White House. The Never Back Down PAC is a way of encouraging DeSantis who is widely speculated to be considering his own presidential bid.

Cuccinelli released a video during the PAC’s launch in which he praised DeSantis calling him the future of the country. He further added that DeSantis is not someone who just talks, but instead, he is someone who takes action and is never backing down. This is why he called on DeSantis to announce his presidential bid knowing that they would support him.

DeSantis is favored by many top GOP leaders who are looking for him to be Trump’s main challenger for the GOP presidential nomination.

This move by Cuccinelli is widely considered to be a step back in the relations of the two men, with him once again opposing Trump, despite the fact that during the Trump administration, he had served both as the acting DHS secretary and as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

In 2016, Cuccinelli had been opposed to Trump winning the primary as he was a big supporter of Senator Ted Cruz.
