(TheIndependentStar.com) – President Trump has signed a historic executive order using the Defense Production Act to reclaim America’s critical mineral independence from China and other hostile nations.
The order invokes emergency powers to boost domestic production of vital resources like uranium, copper, and rare earth elements, which are essential for national security and economic stability.
The executive order, signed this week, utilizes the Defense Production Act (DPA) to provide financing and investment support for processing critical minerals on American soil.
This Cold War-era legislation gives the President special authority to prioritize domestic production of materials deemed vital to national defense.
In the order, Trump states plainly what patriotic Americans have long known: “Our national and economic security are now acutely threatened by our reliance upon hostile foreign powers’ mineral production.”
The facts reveal a shocking vulnerability in America’s supply chain. The United States currently depends on imports for at least 15 critical minerals, with a staggering 70% of rare earth imports coming directly from communist China.
These materials are essential components in everything from batteries to advanced weapons systems that protect American freedoms.

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation will partner with the Department of Defense to finance new mineral production projects to address this national security crisis.
Additionally, the order mandates expedited permitting for mining operations and directs the Interior Department to prioritize mineral production on federal lands – cutting through the bureaucratic red tape that has stifled American resource development for years.
“It is imperative for our national security that the United States take immediate action to facilitate domestic mineral production to the maximum possible extent,” declared the executive order, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The timing could not be more critical. China has recently implemented export controls on crucial materials like germanium, gallium, and antimony – a hostile economic act that directly threatens American manufacturing and defense capabilities.
By developing domestic sources, Trump’s order will protect American jobs and national security from foreign manipulation.
Trump called this a “historic action to dramatically expand production” of minerals essential to American prosperity and security.
The administration will work closely with private sector partners to ensure stable domestic supply chains for critical resources, including uranium, copper, potash, gold, and potentially coal – creating good-paying American jobs while strengthening national security.
The President is also pursuing international agreements to access critical minerals in strategic locations like Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of Congo, extending America’s resource security beyond the borders while strengthening relationships with allies.
This comprehensive approach demonstrates Trump’s commitment to restoring American resource independence after years of dangerous dependence fostered by previous administrations.
