On Thursday (June 1) night, former President Donald Trump said America’s “corrupt” and “one-sided” justice system was protecting President Joe Biden and his family, telling Fox News he should not have been impeached — especially considering authorities were aware of the “evil” Hunter Biden laptop at the time.
Trump made the comments during a Fox News town hall hosted by Sean Hannity in Clive, Iowa.
The former President spent the night railing against the “witch hunts” he faced during his political career while pointing to a double standard between how he was being treated compared to Biden and his family.
“They’re being protected, and it’s a one-sided system — it is a very unfair system,” Trump said.
The former President was referring to then-Vice President Joe Biden’s efforts to fire Ukraine’s prosecutor and end an investigation into Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company chaired by Hunter Biden.
In a July 2019 phone call, Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to launch an investigation into the Biden family’s activities and business dealings in Ukraine — particularly Hunter Biden’s dealings with the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings and Joe Biden’s successful bid to oust prosecutor Viktor Shockin.
Trump’s request comes after millions in U.S. military aid to Ukraine was frozen in what Democrats say is a quid pro quo deal. Democrats also argued that Trump interfered in the 2020 presidential election by asking a foreign leader to investigate a Democratic political opponent.
But Trump’s questions about Hunter Biden’s business dealings were not unfounded. At the time of Trump’s first impeachment, Hunter Biden had already been under federal criminal investigation into his tax affairs for over a year, promoted by the younger Biden’s questionable foreign transactions.
