On Wednesday (May 24), former President Donald Trump called the campaign launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) a “disaster” and a “catastrophe” after technical problems hit the governor’s Twitter message.

“Wow! The DeSanctus’ TWITTER launch is a DISASTER!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, using a shortened version of his nickname “DeSanctimonious.”

The former President noted the launch would be an insight into DeSantis’ entire campaign, which he asserted would be a “disaster. WATCH!”

He then queried whether DeSantis’s start would be “fatal,” writing, “Yes!”

Florida’s governor officially announced his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on Twitter Spaces with CEO Elon Musk Wednesday at 6 p.m. EDT after filing documents and releasing a campaign launch video earlier in the day.

However, Twitter Spaces experienced technical difficulties, with audio glitches throughout and some users being unable to access the live stream.

Trump compared DeSantis’ launch to Republican Senator Tim Scott (S.C.), who announced his campaign on Monday (May 22).

The former President praised the South Carolina Republican earlier this week as a “step up” from DeSantis.

In another post on Truth Social later in the evening, Trump highlighted that Scott’s presidential launch, “even with the broken mic (don’t pay the contractor, Tim!),” was the best presidential launch of the week, describing DeSantis’s as a “disaster.”

DeSantis, who has hinted at running for the White House for months, is the only Republican candidate to make a dent among GOP Voters, making him Trump’s strongest competition. But a poll released Wednesday showed Trump established his lead over the Florida Governor by more than 30 points.
