On Tuesday (June 20), former President Donald Trump said that the plea deal with Hunter Biden was the equivalent of a “traffic ticket” for President Biden’s son, saying it showed that the U.S. justice system is “corrupt.”

“They gave him a traffic ticket and cleared everything up,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Digital after Biden’s plea deal was made public.

Trump described the situation as a “disgrace” to the system and the American people suggesting the deal was grossly “unfair” and included “prosecutorial misconduct” and “election interference, all wrapped up.”

According to the agreement announced by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income taxes.

Biden also agreed to a plea deal on a separate charge of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user or drug addict of a controlled substance.

Trump, who last week pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges stemming from special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into his alleged improper storage of secret documents, said the world would be different if one of his sons were under investigation.

Trump claimed the legal system was “corrupt,” adding that if it were one of his family members, they would be facing “hundreds of years.”

If he hadn’t accepted the plea deal, Hunter Biden would have faced up to 12 months in prison on both charges and up to 10 years on the firearms charge, Weiss’ office said.

However, the deal still requires a judge’s approval, which Weiss’s office revealed will “determine any sentence after [the federal judge takes] into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.”
