In an interview on Monday, Former President Donald Trump recounted how Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) had reached out asking him for his endorsement. As he told Fox News’s Sean Hannity during the interview his endorsement was “like a nuclear weapon went off” following Trump’s endorsement of DeSantis in the 2018 gubernatorial primary race.

As Trump recalled, DeSantis had reached out to him “with tears in his eyes” saying that if Trump backed him then he would be able to win. Trump stated that as DeSantis had previously defended him during his first impeachment trial he would  “give it a shot” regarding the endorsement. He then requested DeSantis to write down everything that he had wanted Trump to say in his endorsement. However, Trump proceeded to change DeSantis’ writing in order to make it “great.”

Trump added that from the moment that he gave his endorsement the “race was over.” He then proceeded to note that it would not have mattered who DeSantis was if it had not been for Trump’s endorsement he could have ended up working in law enforcement or in a pizza parlor.

This is not the first time that Trump has touted his endorsement of DeSantis and claimed that without it DeSantis would not have won. However, earlier this month Trump stated he “probably” regretted DeSantis’ endorsement.
