Is Trump really back?
Following reports that Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchased a 9.2% stake in Twitter, conservatives, led by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), have called on Musk to get former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account restored.
On Monday, Boebert Tweeted, “Now that @ElonMusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, it’s time to lift the political censorship.” She continued, “Oh… and BRING BACK TRUMP!”
The call follows Musk’s recent criticism of Twitter and its policies, with the Tesla CEO saying that Twitter is undermining democracy by not adhering to the principles of free speech. Many believe that Musk’s stake in the company is his attempt to change the policies from within the organization.
If true, it appears conservatives are trying to leverage Musk’s views on free speech to have Trump’s account restored, with others tweeting at Musk following Boebert’s tweet.
The former President’s Twitter account was permanently suspended following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
Joining Boebert in her call, Monica Crowley, former assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the Treasury Department, tweeted, “Now that @elonmusk is Twitter’s largest shareholder, he should demand the end of political censorship, company-wide reform, and the reinstatement of President Trump.”
Errol Webber, a Republican House candidate for California, also supported the call to reinstate Trump’s account. “@ElonMusk is now the largest shareholder of Twitter. Time to get this platform back to its former glory.”
The California Republican continued his tweet, outlining the steps Musk should take.
“Step one – bring back President Trump!
“Step two – give everyone who has been banned a second chance.
“Step three – end all forms of political and other censorship.”
Also, on Monday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene added her voice to the call for Trump to be allowed back on Twitter, tweeting, “Will the new majority shareholder return freedom of speech to Twitter?” adding that “It will require courage bc the regime is heavily investing in a certain industry and threats will undoubtedly come. Yet the freedom of speech restored will enable us all to defeat them.”
