(TheIndependentStar.com) – Tiger Woods’ legendary career faces yet another uphill battle as the golf icon undergoes Achilles surgery.

The unexpected setback now forces Woods to miss the Masters and possibly all major championships in 2025.
The 49-year-old champion, who has already battled through numerous career-threatening injuries, ruptured his left Achilles tendon during training at his Florida home.
This latest incident raises serious questions about whether American sports fans will ever again see the full competitive spirit of one of the nation’s greatest athletes.
Woods underwent a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” said Dr. Stucken following the procedure.
The surgery addressed a rupture that occurred while Woods was training at his residence.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods explained in his announcement of the injury.
“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you all for the support,” Woods added in his statement.
This injury comes at a particularly difficult time for Woods, who was already navigating a challenging period in his life and career.
Earlier this year, he withdrew from The Genesis Invitational following the death of his mother.
Woods has not competed in a PGA Tour event since The Open Championship last summer, where he missed the cut.
Despite the minimally invasive nature of the surgery, recovery from an Achilles rupture is no small matter.
The procedure typically involves smaller incisions that may allow for quicker healing, but patients still cannot put weight on the affected foot for at least a month.
For a professional golfer who needs to walk miles during tournament play, this represents a significant hurdle.
Woods’ recent medical history reads like a war veteran’s service record. In 2021, he suffered catastrophic injuries in a car accident that nearly led to the amputation of his right leg.
He has undergone multiple back surgeries, including microdecompression surgery on his lumbar spine just last September.
In April 2023, he had a subtalar fusion procedure to address post-traumatic arthritis in his right ankle.
While some golfers have recovered from similar injuries in relatively short timeframes—fellow golfer Bernhard Langer reportedly returned to play three months after an Achilles surgery—Woods’ complex medical history makes his recovery timeline far more uncertain.
Given his age and accumulated injuries, many sports analysts question whether Woods will be able to compete at an elite level again.
Woods’ absence will be felt acutely at next month’s Masters Tournament, where he has claimed the green jacket five times.
Last season, he finished 60th at Augusta and missed the cut at the other three major championships.
His playing schedule had already been significantly reduced in recent years, with Woods focusing almost exclusively on major championships.
Despite the setbacks, Woods continues to demonstrate the resilience and fighting spirit that made him a champion.
Now recovering at his home in Jupiter, Florida, the golf legend is once again facing the long road back to competition.455
