After former President Donald Trump took a jab at New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s (R) weight last week, Christie’s returned a stinging statement about the former President’s ability to declassify documents with his thoughts.
Speaking at a business convention, Christie, according to the New York Post, said, “We have a former president of the United States who [went] on national television last night and said, ‘I declassified the documents thinking about it.'”
He then mocked Trump’s assertion he could declassify documents “even by thinking about it,” saying, “Imagine all I could have accomplished if I only knew that I didn’t actually have to do it. I just had to think about it — this is a credible candidate for 2024.”
Christie’s remarks come on the back of a post Trump made about the Governor’s weight on Truth Social.
Posting an image of a large unidentified man leaning over a buffet counter to get food, Trump added the following caption: “Chris Christie at a Roy Rogers at 11PM in the evening trying to console himself.”
Trump and Christie once shared rapport after Christie — who ran against Trump in 2016 — was the first Republican presidential candidate to endorse Trump.
But the relationship has since seemingly turned sour after Christie — during an appearance on ABC News’s “This Week” on Sunday (September 18) — said the DOJ had “no choice” but to raid the former President’s Mar-a-Lago residence, in the same breath criticizing Trump for his handling of classified information.
