Supreme Court Will Decide THIS States’ Rights Case

(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a bombshell development, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear a key case that could allow states to defund abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

This landmark decision will reveal if South Carolina and other conservative states can protect taxpayers from funding the nation’s largest abortion provider through Medicaid.

The Kerr v. Edwards case stems from South Carolina’s 2018 decision to exclude Planned Parenthood from its Medicaid program.

Governor Henry McMaster directed the state health department to disqualify abortion clinics from providing family planning services under Medicaid.

“Taxpayer dollars should never fund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood,” Gov. McMaster said in a post on X.

Despite federal law already restricting Medicaid from funding most abortions, Planned Parenthood and its allies sued South Carolina, claiming the funding cut violated their right to choose providers.

Liberal activist judges sided with the abortion industry, blocking the state’s attempt to protect life and taxpayers.

The Supreme Court will now review whether states have the right to determine if abortion providers like Planned Parenthood qualify for Medicaid funding.

This case takes on new significance after the Court handed down the historic Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade last year.

The conservative Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is representing South Carolina officials in the case.

ADF senior counsel John Bursch argued that “Pro-life states like South Carolina should be free to determine that Planned Parenthood and other entities that peddle abortion are not qualified to receive taxpayer funding through Medicaid.”

“Taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund facilities that make a profit off abortion,” John Bursch added.

Sixty-eight Congressional Republicans have urged the Supreme Court to side with South Carolina, supporting states’ rights to protect life and determine Medicaid provider qualifications.

While Planned Parenthood claims to offer health services beyond abortion, the organization’s own reports reveal its true priorities.

In its latest disclosure, Planned Parenthood admitted to a record-breaking 392,715 abortions while raking in $699.3 million in government funding.

The Supreme Court’s decision will have far-reaching effects on states’ governance.

A ruling in favor of South Carolina would empower more states to defund Planned Parenthood and redirect taxpayer dollars to health providers that do not perform abortions.
