(TheIndependentStar.com) – On October 28, the Wall Street Journal broke a story about the federal government considering a $450,000 per person restitution to illegal immigrant families separated under Trump immigration policies. Unsurprisingly, outrage followed the revelation.
On November 1, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) spoke out about the policy, saying it would be an insult to American citizens and those who legally entered the country. He expressed concern that President Joe Biden is even considering the payments.

DeSantis talked about how everyone is struggling due to an increase in the cost of goods and services across the board. He said citizens are going through tough times, yet President Joe Biden wants to hand out large amounts of money to people who are in this country illegally. He also pointed to past policies of the Biden White House, saying people are having their freedoms limited and that this is adding to the hardship they’re facing.
The governor called the potential payments to illegal immigrants disgraceful and said they cannot happen. He pledged that Florida will do whatever it can to help block such a policy and fight back against harmful Biden administration decisions.
These statements from DeSantis are not a surprise. He’s been very outspoken against Biden policies since the administration took office. He is known for standing up for Floridians and speaking in opposition to everything from mask mandates to critical race theory in schools.
