(TheIndependentStar.com) – The presidential election of 2020 may not be that long ago, but people are already looking forward to 2024. While former President Donald Trump still tops polls as the favorite to become the next Republican presidential nominee, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is not far behind.
DeSantis’ decisions concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, critical race theory, and other hot-button issues have put him in good standing with many in the GOP. In straw polls, he is winning when Trump is not in the running.
Due to this buzz, some commentators are speculating that he may run in the 2024 election, but the governor has a response to the rumors. On September 7, DeSantis said the murmurings are nothing but “nonsense,” and that he is not going to run.

The governor explained his focus remains on Florida. He is committed to his job and working hard for Floridians.
It isn’t just rumblings from excited voters spreading the rumors about his potential run. Trump said in April he would consider DeSantis as a vice president if he chooses to run again. He backed DeSantis for his gubernatorial run and likes the job he’s done.
However, Florida voters are not so keen to push their governor towards the White House. A poll from August showed they would prefer him not to run. DeSantis’ dismissal of the rumors around his presidential ambitions suggest he’s listening to the people he represents.
