Marc Fogel, who was arrested in Russia on drug charges in 2021, has finally returned to U.S. soil after enduring more than three grueling years in Russian detention.

In a heartfelt meeting at the White House, Fogel said, “I want you to know that I am not a hero in this at all. And President Trump is a hero.”

Fogel was sentenced to 14 years in a Russian prison in June 2022 for carrying medically prescribed marijuana and hash oil.

His release was part of a negotiated exchange between the U.S. and Russia, orchestrated by President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

Upon his return, Fogel thanked President Trump and his team, describing them as “heroes.”

“These men that came from the diplomatic service are heroes. The senators and representatives that passed legislation in my honor – they got me home – they are heroes,” Fogel remarked, underscoring the collective effort behind his release.

The successful negotiation for Fogel’s release stands in contrast to the Biden administration’s mishandling of similar cases.

Fogel’s family had previously criticized Biden’s team, feeling overshadowed by the media attention given to U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner’s case.

“We are beyond grateful, relieved, and overwhelmed that after more than three years of detention, our father, husband, and son, Marc Fogel, is finally coming home,” the family stated.

It added, “Thanks to the unwavering leadership of President Trump, Marc will soon be back on American soil, free where he belongs. This has been the darkest and most painful period of our lives, but today, we begin to heal.”

Fogel’s lawyers also addressed the situation, saying, “President Trump secured Marc’s release in just a few weeks, wasting no time in taking decisive action to bring Marc home.”

President Trump’s success in securing Fogel’s release is not just a victory for one American family but a testament to his commitment to protecting U.S. citizens abroad.

The negotiation for Fogel’s release may have broader implications for U.S.-Russia relations.

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz suggested that this deal could be a positive step towards ending the war in Ukraine.

President Trump has consistently emphasized his ability to broker peace. He has stated his aim to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict within the first 100 days of his new administration.

As America celebrates Fogel’s return, this victory is a powerful reminder of President Trump’s unwavering commitment to bringing Americans home and his unique ability to navigate complex international negotiations.
