(TheIndependentStar.com) – Crime is running rampant across the country, with the latest victims being two patriotic Virginia Beach police officers.
Unaware that a simple act of duty would cost them their lives, Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese were brutally murdered when they stopped a vehicle for expired plates.
“I’m going to be quite honest, we’re all hurting,” Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate expressed. “We still have jobs to do, and we may appear stoic on the outside, but I can tell you, our hearts are broken on the inside.”
Suspect John McCoy III is a convicted felon. He turned what should have been a routine interaction into a deadly confrontation.
McCoy became argumentative and physically aggressive toward the officers. He then opened fire, shooting both officers multiple times, including while they lay wounded on the ground.
Chief Neudigate was visibly shaken by the loss of his officers. He described the footage from body-worn and patrol car cameras as “horrific.”
The chief said, “What I can tell you from the video is after he executed our officers, he calmly walked away.”
It all began when both officers demanded McCoy follow their instructions. However, everything changed in the blink of an eye.
“At some point, [McCoy] complied with those requests, stepped out of the vehicle (and), almost immediately there was a tussle between the officers and this individual.”
McCoy then opened fire on the officers, who fell to the ground. The suspect decided to keep shooting despite the officers’ wounds.
This tragedy underscores the urgent need for stronger support for law enforcement officers and tougher penalties for those who dare to harm them.
McCoy was later found dead in a shed with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, robbing the families of Officers Girvin and Reese of the justice they deserve.
Chief Neudigate stated, “The officers, Girvin and Reece, they were dedicated, determined peace officers and public servants. They had stellar reputations in our department and their work ethic was beyond reproach.”
“We asked them to go out in this community and keep us safe from evil. And last night, evil found them. And that sacrifice is a painful reminder of the dangers our officers face,” he added.
As the Virginia Beach community mourns the loss of these brave officers, it is time for all Americans to stand united behind the brave men and women in blue.
