This was unexpected.

On Saturday (May 28) evening, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, 82, was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence.

The arrest was made in Napa County at 11:44 p.m. and was charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.8 or higher in addition to driving under the influence.

Paul Pelosi was booked into jail at 4:13 a.m. but was released three hours later at 7:26 p.m. with bail set at $5,000, according to information from Napa County’s records.

A spokesperson for Nancy Pelosi has also indicated that the House Speaker has no intentions to comment on the “private” matter, noting that Pelosi was on the “East Coast” when it occurred.

A lawyer for Paul Pelosi released a statement, indicating his client was returning from a friend’s dinner party and was “fully cooperative with California Highway Patrol officers who arrived a few minutes later.”

The attorney for Mr. Pelosi also stated that there had not been a crash and that a previous DUI charge had wrongfully been attributed to Paul, possibly because it occurred to someone with the same name.
