Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (N.Y.) said she thinks Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is “weaker” than former President Donald Trump, despite polls showing DeSantis is doing better than Trump in a hypothetical 2024 contest against President Biden.
MSNBC’s Jen Psaki asked the New York Democrat if a Trump victory in the GOP primary nomination would be the Democrats’ best chance to win the White House in the next Presidential election.
Although AOC is an outspoken critic of the former President, the progressive still suggested DeSantis was “weaker.” ”
Ocasio-Cortez shared her thoughts that DeSantis had made “large critical errors,” adding that she believed DeSantis was “weaker,” noting that Noone could “out-Trump, Trump.”
Ocasio-Cortez continued to blast DeSantis, who is expected to announce his 2024 campaign in May or June.
The New York Democrat added that DeSantis was trying to out-Trump the former President, acknowledging that the Florida Governor was trying to appeal to Trump’s base, which she explained: “belongs to Donald Trump.”
Ocasio-Cortez also argued that DeSantis’ policies “go too far in the state of Florida,” even though he won re-election in the 2022 midterms by nearly 20 points.
She also noted that DeSantis was sacrificing “the one thing that others may have thought would make him competitive,” which is that many believed he was more reasonable than Trump.
Ocasio-Cortez noted that she didn’t think there was anyone who could take on former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination, adding that she thought the GOP was so “disorganized” that she didn’t believe anyone could unite the party, “even beyond Donald Trump.”
