Will voters hold her accountable?
Footage that surfaced Sunday (January 2nd) showed Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) maskless in a packed group.
The recording shows the congresswoman being applauded by a group in a drag bar where many others were also maskless.
Brendon Leslie, a journalist for Florida’s Conservative Voice, who first tweeted the video, defended his actions after he received some backlash from a few users. In the tweet, he said that the point of the post was to expose Ocasio-Cortez’s hypocrisy, adding that he didn’t care if she was maskless. Instead, he emphasized, he cared that she “fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here.”
The latest incident of Ocasio-Cortez partying in Florida comes as the congresswoman’s home state is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, driven by the Omicron variant.
The incident is also not the first time the congresswoman has been spotted maskless in Miami. Last week, the National Review reported that Ocasio-Cortez was maskless in Miami alongside images of her at a restaurant sipping on a drink accompanied by her boyfriend. On Friday (December 31st), in a tweet, Steve Cortes, former Trump campaign advisor, called out her boyfriend’s sandal choice. The New York Democrat responded by saying that “if Republicans are mad they can’t date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend’s feet.”
To rebut any claims AOC could make that Leslie was a Republican trying to date her, Leslie asserted that he was not trying to sleep with Ocasio-Cortez. Instead, he was posting the video because he believed her to be “a lying hypocrite.”
