Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) suggested that Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) retire after two buses of Migrants were bussed from Eagle Pass, Texas, and dropped off in Washington, D.C. on Friday (September 16) morning.
Suggesting Abbott was incompetent, Ocasio-Cortez floated the idea that the Texas Governor was “struggling” to run his state and should consider other employment.
Taking to Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez referenced the February 2021 power crisis that left Texans without power after three severe storms ravished the state, saying, “I remember how folks stepped up to help Texans when you left them cold and hungry during the freeze. We will welcome these families too. They have so much to offer.”
The New York Democrat continued her criticism of Abbott, continuing, “You do seem to be struggling at your job, though. Maybe you should consider if this is the right work for you.”
Ocasio-Cortez made her remarks in response to a tweet by Abbott that revealed two buses carrying migrants had arrived at the Naval Observatory in D.C.
Abbott also defended his decision to send the Migrants to D.C., highlighting that Vice President Kamala Harris had denied there was a border crisis, reiterating statements the Vice President made about the border being “secure.”
“We’re sending migrants to her backyard to call on the Biden administration to do its job and secure the border,” Abbott said in the tweet.
More than 100 migrants from Columbia, Mexico, Venezuela, and Uruguay were transported to D.C. in the busses.
Abbott has been joined by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in his relocation of Migrants. On Thursday (September 15), DeSantis sent a plane carrying Migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
