(TheIndependentStar.com) – Three young people are the latest to have fallen victims of a mass shooting in a Democrat-run state – after they were targeted by a gunman in Delaware on Halloween night, towards the end of trick-or-treating, with the suspect remaining at large.
On Halloween night, a tragic shooting occurred in the Salem Woods community of Bear, Delaware.
This incident, reported during the closing hours of trick-or-treating, resulted in three individuals being shot, as confirmed by the New Castle County Police.
Cpl. Mike McNasby, a spokesman for the New Castle County Police Department, told Delaware Online that the shooting took place just before 8 p.m. in the first block of Alvin Drive, Newsweek reports.
Responding officers discovered two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, along with a 20-year-old woman, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were promptly transported to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
However, McNasby noted that at least two of the victims were critically injured, a detail also reported by NBC 10 Philadelphia, mentioning that two were under trauma codes.
Following the incident, the area saw a significant police response, with several roads, including Jaymar Boulevard, Emily Court, and Alvin Drive, being closed.
“The public can expect an increased police presence in the area for several hours,” the New Castle County Police Department said in a statement.
“This is an active investigation, and further information will be provided when it becomes available,” it wrote.
The report points out that the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and are under active investigation.
The police have appealed to the public for any information, asking individuals to contact the criminal investigations unit.
This incident in Delaware was not an isolated case in the days leading up to Halloween.
A separate mass shooting occurred at a Halloween party in Chicago, Illinois. In this incident, a 48-year-old convicted felon, William Groves, allegedly shot 15 people and has been charged with 15 counts of attempted first-degree murder. As a felon, Groves was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Over the past weekend, there was also a shooting during Halloween festivities in Tampa, Florida, which killed two and injured 18 people.
Data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive shows 11 people were fatally shot and 76 others wounded in mass shootings across the nation during the weekend preceding Halloween.
