(TheIndependentStar.com) – Widely recognized for his role in the Netflix series “Elite,” Netflix star Julian Ortega has passed away at the age of 41.
According to a source, the Spanish actor suffered a cardiac arrest on Zahora Beach in Barbate, Spain.
Paramedics tried to revive him for 30 minutes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ortega’s Instagram has since been flooded with heartfelt messages from fans and fellow actors mourning his loss.
He shared his last post on March 19, which featured a tribute to a show he worked on. In Spanish, he expressed how his colleagues “made me learn, enjoy, and freak out so much in colors.”
Furthermore, Ortega was best known for his role in Elite, a Spanish teen drama on Netflix that aired for eight seasons from 2018 to 2024.
The show focused on an elite high school filled with wealthy and privileged students.
According to IMDb, Ortega appeared in six episodes as the manager of the restaurant La Cabaña.
In addition, Netflix announced in 2019 that the first season of Elite was streamed by over 20 million accounts within its first month of release.
Following the news of Ortega’s death, many of his fellow actors shared their condolences on social media (in posts translated from Spanish).
Actress and friend Silvia Marsó wrote on Instagram that it was hard to comprehend the news. “Absolute sadness,” she said.
Actor Paco Collado, who played Ortega’s father in The Countryside, shared his support in a post to X, “You left us with sympathy, generosity and professionalism, many hugs friend and also to your family, a real shame in the prime of your youth, RIP Julian.”
Ortega also had notable roles in Spanish shows like “4 estrellas,” “The Countryside,” “Caronte,” “Untameable,” and “La que se avecina.” He completed work on the upcoming film Trompeta before his death.
