Michelle Obama Jumps Into Olympic Controversy

MICHELLE OBAMA

(TheIndependentStar.com) – Since their viral medals photo made waves, Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles got a boost from former First Lady Michelle Obama.

After Team USA medalists showed respect and bowed to Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who won gold in the floor exercise, Biles and Chiles were called out by Ravens defensive back Marlon Humphrey.

“This is literally disgusting,” Humphrey, a three-time Pro Bowler, wrote on X.

However, Michelle Obama saw things differently, praising the athletes’ “sportsmanship” after Biles took silver and Chiles snagged bronze.

“I’m still not over this beautiful moment of sisterhood and sportsmanship! You can just feel the love shining through these ladies. Congrats Rebeca, Jordan and Simone!” Michelle wrote on X.

In turn, Humphrey faced backlash online for his comment, which he acknowledged in a follow-up post later that night. “I’m lowkey getting cooked right now. I think I’m getting cussed out in Brazilian on Instagram lol” he wrote.

Moreover, it has been an eventful Olympics for Biles and Chiles, who have secured six medals for Team USA.

For Biles, these days have been a redemption tour after leaving the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the “twisties.”

With three gold medals and one silver, Biles has once again dominated gymnastics with an outstanding performance in Paris.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old also found herself in social media drama earlier in the games after shading former teammate MyKayla Skinner—who previously criticized the U.S. “work ethic”—following the Americans’ gold win in the team all-around event.

Skinner took to Instagram, asking Biles to urge her fans to stop harassing her.

“Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly, to please put a stop to this. Please ask your followers to stop, you have been an incredible champion for mental health awareness and a lot of people need your help now,” Skinner said.

Biles has finished her run in these Olympics but has not ruled out competing again in 2028.
