What is McConnell thinking?!?

Mitch McConnell’s, Senate Minority Leader, leadership PAC announced the purchase of a $7 million ad buy Monday to support Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski who is currently facing Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka.

Thus far, this is the only Republican supported by McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund in the primary. Most of the cash from the fund will be used for the six general elections.

‘We don’t seek out opportunities to be involved in primaries,’ Senate Leadership Fund President Steven Law said in an interview with Politico.

McConnell has also clearly expressed his support for Murkowski who held the Alaska Senate seat for two decades.

This investment is similar to the one made for her 2016 re-election campaign.

Murkowski has faced criticism from former President Donald Trump since last February when she was one of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump on the House’s impeachment charges over the Jan. 6, Capitol Riot.

Trump announced his support for Tshibaka in June. Tshibaka is an Alaska native and a graduate of Harvard Law School. In January 2019 she was appointed to lead the Department of Administration by Alaska’s governor. She has spent close to two decades working for the federal government under the Bush, Obama, and Trump administrations.

In a statement, Trump said, ‘Lisa Murkowski is bad for Alaska,’ he then announced his ‘Complete and Total Endorsement of Tshibaka. He further said he would be campaigning for her in Alaska.
McConnell and Trump also had a falling out after the Presidential elections, after McConnell criticized Trump’s allegations of widespread voter fraud.
