(TheIndependentStar.com) – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) latest food recall highlights a grave concern: your health might be in jeopardy.
Over 10,000 pounds of pork products have been recalled as sausages were distributed without proper federal inspection.
The recall involves two separate incidents, both highlighting the alarming gaps in food safety protocols.
Baltimore-based Impero Foods & Meats, Inc. is recalling 7,485 pounds of raw pork sausage products due to a lack of federal inspection.
These products have the establishment number “EST. 10827” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed to restaurants and retailers in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The fact that these products made it to market without proper inspection is a glaring example of government oversight failure.
It raises concerns about how many other potentially unsafe food items might be slipping through the cracks of the supposedly strict inspection system.
Adding to the fiasco, Ralph’s Packing Company from Oklahoma is recalling over 3,000 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna due to undeclared milk allergens.
This mislabeling puts countless Americans with dairy allergies at risk of severe allergic reactions, including potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis.
While the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) claims to be conducting recall effectiveness checks, citizens are left wondering how these products made it to market in the first place.
Consumers are now left to fend for themselves and are advised to check lot codes and establishment numbers to ensure the safety of their food.
