MAGA Wants It Closed – Today It Finally Happens

(TheIndependentStar.com) – Ending decades of federal control over American classrooms, President Donald Trump is set to finally dismantle the Department of Education today.

The White House has confirmed the president will sign the executive order, fulfilling a key campaign promise to put parents back in charge of their children’s education.

President Trump’s executive order represents a watershed moment in American education policy.

He aims to reverse the massive federal takeover of schools that began when President Jimmy Carter established the department in 1980.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has already reduced the department’s workforce by half as a step toward its ultimate closure.

“His directive to me, clearly, is to shut down the Department of Education, which we know we’ll have to work with Congress, you know, to get that accomplished,” McMahon stated.

The executive order will specifically prevent agency funds from supporting radical diversity, equity, inclusion, or gender ideology programs that have infected America’s schools.

This aligns with parents’ growing concerns about leftist indoctrination replacing actual education in classrooms across the country.

While legal experts note that completely abolishing the department requires congressional action, the president’s order will effectively gut the agency’s operations, cut bloated bureaucracy and redirect authority to states.

The Department of Education’s $79.1 billion budget has produced stagnant or declining academic results for decades while pushing ideological agendas on American children.

“Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. should not be in charge of our children’s intellectual and moral development,” said Rep. Thomas Massie, who has introduced legislation to eliminate the department by December 2026.

President Trump has repeatedly pointed out that the department is filled with “radicals, zealots, and Marxists” who have failed American students.

National test scores confirm his assessment: despite massive federal spending increases, academic achievement has remained flat or declined.

The administration plans to ensure the continuation of critical programs like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act while eliminating wasteful spending and federal overreach.

White House spokesperson Harrison Fields highlighted the urgency of action, stating: “NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) scores reveal a national crisis—our children are falling behind.”

Not surprisingly, teachers’ unions are fighting to preserve their bureaucratic power structure.

Becky Pringle of the National Education Association claimed the move will hurt students.

However, she failed to explain how federal control has improved education during the department’s 44-year existence.

The administration emphasizes that President Trump’s action will empower families over entrenched bureaucracies while expanding educational opportunities through other initiatives.

By returning control to states and communities, schools can develop solutions that address local needs rather than following one-size-fits-all federal mandates that have consistently failed American students.
