(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a major betrayal of his nation and his patriotic duties, a former Air National Guardsman has received a 15-year prison sentence for leaking America’s national security secrets.

Once entrusted with top-secret clearance, Jack Teixeira now faces the harsh reality of his actions after leaking hundreds of sensitive documents on social media.

The leaked documents contained highly sensitive information, including details on Russia’s war in Ukraine, troop movements and Western weapons deliveries.

Prosecutors described this breach as one of the most significant violations of the Espionage Act in U.S. history.

The Air Force inspector general found that Teixeira’s unit failed to properly supervise his access to classified information, exposing a dangerous gap in the national security apparatus.

For context, Teixeira enlisted in the Air National Guard in 2019 and received top security clearance in 2021.

He has pleaded guilty to six counts of willfully retaining and transmitting national defense information.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy emphasized the gravity of Teixeira’s actions, stating, “Today, Mr. Teixeira has paid a very heavy price for the laws he broke and for the incredible damage that he caused.”

Levy further added, “I expect that starting tomorrow, Jack Teixeira’s name will be mentioned when people are trained about the gravity of a top-secret clearance and the consequences if you leak information.”

The severity of Teixeira’s actions cannot be overstated. The leaked documents included information on U.S. accounts compromised by foreign adversaries and logistical details of U.S. military support to Ukraine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Dolan said that this reckless disclosure has “directly aided our adversaries and damaged our alliances,” putting national security at risk.

Teixeira’s defense team tried to paint him as a misguided youth, claiming, “Jack is still essentially a child – at the very least, a ‘youthful offender’ – who has his whole life in front of him.”

Judge Indira Talwani accepted a plea agreement and emphasized Teixeira’s wrongdoing, stating, “You posted on the internet on Discord hundreds of documents over a period of a year…I don’t find any ambiguity here as to what you were doing being wrong.”
