(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a shocking twist, the impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden faces a critical setback as a former FBI informant admitted that he lied about a bribery plot.
Former FBI informant Alexander Smirnov has pleaded guilty to lying about a false bribery scheme involving Joe and his son Hunter Biden.
Smirnov’s admission deals a significant blow to the Republican-led impeachment inquiry, which relied heavily on these now-discredited allegations.
The guilty plea extends beyond the Biden-related fabrications. Smirnov also admitted to tax evasion, concealing millions of dollars of income from the government.
Prosecutors and the defense have agreed to recommend a prison sentence of four to six years for Smirnov.
“Despite repeated admonishments that he must provide truthful information to the FBI and that he must not fabricate evidence, the defendant provided false derogatory information,” said the prosecutors in the indictment.
Smirnov’s false allegations claimed that Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid Joe and Hunter $5 million each in 2015.
These claims became a cornerstone of the impeachment inquiry even though the FBI recommended closing the case in August 2020 due to a lack of evidence of corruption by Joe.
Adding another layer to this tangled web, Smirnov alleged contacts with Russian intelligence and claimed they were involved in spreading the false story about Hunter.
“Officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story,” Smirnov said.
The case was prosecuted by special counsel David Weiss, who also handled Hunter’s gun and tax charges.
Interestingly, Hunter was later pardoned by Joe, who claimed political influence in the legal process.
This pardon has been a point of controversy for many conservatives who see it as an abuse of presidential power and a cover-up of potential wrongdoing.
As this story continues to unfold, it seems the impeachment inquiry against Joe was alarmingly built on shaky ground.
While questions about the Biden family’s business dealings remain, this revelation demands a course correction.
