Discussing the Biden Administration’s stance on Russia, MSNBC host of “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough urged President Biden to be more aggressive in averting a likely invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
On Tuesday (December 4th), Scarborough said Americans were “not hearing enough from this administration on what aggressive steps they are taking” when discussing the Russia-Ukraine situation. He also added that the U.S. didn’t have a reason to trust Biden, saying that Russia saw the U.S. as an enemy and that in the past 20 years, the U.S. should have learned that there weren’t any good intentions from Russia.
The Morning Joe host also mentioned that it was time for the U.S to “stop being shocked” by Russia’s actions, saying instead that it was “time to move aggressively –– not towards war –– but toward defending our allies.”
He continued by saying that the U.S. should be aggressive in defending the country’s democratic allies –– Poland, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe, despite what Russia may say.
Elaborating on his comments, Scarborough remarked that the “Soviet Union lost the Cold War, They can get over it,” before saying that if they couldn’t, they could “pay even more consequences.” The MSNBC host also mentioned that it was time for the Biden administration to speak aggressively and clearly on the situation, in addition to revealing to the public what they would be doing to “stop this invasion from happening.”
Scarborough’s remarks follow a statement by Biden on Friday (December 31st), in which he said he relayed to Putin –– on a call –– that if Russia made a move on Ukraine, the action would lead to “severe sanctions.” He also added that the U.S. would increase its presence in Europe, alongside the NATO allies, before stating that President Putin would pay a “heavy price” for making a move on Ukraine.
