(TheIndependentStar.com) – What should have been a routine flight turned into a tragedy when a jet owned by Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil crashed at Scottsdale Airport, leaving one individual dead and four injured.
The incident raises concerns about aviation safety and the increasing number of high-profile crashes across the nation.
Chaos erupted at Scottsdale Municipal Airport when a Learjet 35A owned by the rock star veered off the runway during landing.
The jet’s left main landing gear reportedly failed, causing it to collide with a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet.
The crash resulted in the death of the pilot and injuries to four others, including Neil’s girlfriend and her friend.
While Neil himself was not on board at the time of the crash, the incident has brought attention to the disturbing trend of recent aviation disasters in the U.S.,
Recently, dozens were killed when a Black Hawk helicopter collided with a passenger plane. Additionally, a commuter plane crashed in Alaska, killing several people.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily paused flights into Scottsdale Airport following the crash, causing disruptions for travelers and businesses in the area.
Although the runway finally reopened, questions remain about the long-term impact on the airport’s operations and safety protocols.
“It’s certainly a tragedy that occurred,” said Scottsdale Airport aviation director Gary Mascaro.
He highlighted the gravity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
Emergency crews from Glendale, Phoenix, and Scottsdale responded swiftly to the crash site, with one person requiring extrication from the wreckage.
Hazmat units were also deployed to inspect and clear surrounding buildings, ensuring the safety of nearby residents and businesses.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FAA have launched investigations into the crash, focusing on the reported failure of the Learjet’s left main landing gear.
This incident marks the first fatal crash at Scottsdale Airport since 2018, raising concerns about the facility’s safety record and maintenance procedures.
Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky also addressed the situation: “Today, Scottsdale sadly experienced an aircraft accident at our airport. Based on the information provided thus far, it appears at least one person is dead after two jets collided on the runway at Scottsdale Airport.”
She added:
“On behalf of the city of Scottsdale, we offer our deepest condolences to those involved in the accident and for those who have been taken to our trauma center for treatment. We will keep all affected by this tragedy in our prayers. I would also like to thank our first responder community for their quick action and service in this situation.”
As the investigation unfolds, this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures and regular maintenance in aviation.
It also highlights the need for increased scrutiny across jet operations to avoid regrettable deaths.
The incident occurred just weeks before Mötley Crüe’s scheduled Las Vegas Residency in March, casting a somber shadow over the band’s upcoming performances.
The group has expressed their intention to support the family of the deceased pilot and offered condolences to all those affected by the crash.
