(TheIndependentStar.com) – The recent brave decision by former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to endorse Donald Trump for the White House has already come at a price for him as pro-Democrat members of the Kennedy family are attacking him for committing a “betrayal.”
Kennedy recently expressed his hope that his endorsement of former President Donald Trump would not estrange him from those family members who support Vice President Kamala Harris despite their differing political affiliations.
Emphasizing the bonds of family, Kennedy articulated a desire to maintain unity and affection within his familial circle in the face of political divergence.
On Friday, in a strategic shift that recalibrated his campaign’s trajectory, Kennedy paused his electoral efforts in several pivotal battleground states and publicly aligned himself with Trump.
This political pivot was met with immediate and vocal disapproval from several relatives. In the wake of his announcement, a group of Kennedy’s family members, including Kerry Kennedy, labeled his support for Trump as running against the foundational principles long cherished by their family, The Washington Examiner reports.
“We believe in Harris and Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear,” Kerry Kennedy remarked in a formal statement, which was endorsed by four additional members of the Kennedy clan.
Addressing the ensuing family discord and broader public criticism, Kennedy appeared on Fox News’s program “Fox News Sunday,” where he articulated his understanding of his family’s deep-seated roots in the Democratic Party.
Nonetheless, he expressed a fervent hope that these political differences would not overshadow the enduring familial love.
“I understand that they’re troubled by my decisions, but you know, I love my family. I feel like we were raised in a milieu where we were encouraged to debate each other and debate ferociously and passionately about things, but just still love each other,” Kennedy stated.
Moreover, Kennedy revealed that despite the disagreement over his endorsement, there remained robust support for his campaign within his extensive family network.
“So, you know, they can – they’re free to take their positions on these issues. There are many, many members of my family who are working in my campaign and who are supporting me. I have a very big family. There’s a few of them that are troubled, but you know, I think we all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other,” he added.
