Kari Lake, Arizona’s gubernatorial candidate, defeated in this midterms, has suggested that Maricopa County election officials be “locked up” as she prepares to contest the certified election results in court hearings.
Lake made her comments on Sunday (December 18) while speaking to an audience of young conservatives at Turning Point USA’s America Fest.
During her speech, Lake discussed her midterm election results. She repeated unproven claims that the 2020 elections were stolen, drawing parallels between the 2020 elections and her contest with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs in the midterms.
Lake asserted that the Maricopa County officials were “crooks [and] they need to be locked up,” pointing to disproven claims about election fraud.
Maricopa County, Arizona’s most populous county, has been the epicenter of voter fraud allegations since the 2020 elections, with the GOP claiming there was voter disenfranchisement because of printer malfunctions experienced on Election Day.
On Election Day, the county’s election officials acknowledged the issues while giving voters an alternative.
However, Lake has asserted that the malfunctions would disenfranchise GOP voters since Election Day would be the day most Republicans in the state vote.
Lake compared the fight to prove voter fraud to the Founding Fathers fighting against British tyranny.
She asserted that the GOP was doing the same by fighting against voter fraud.
On Monday (December 19), there was a 75-minute heading leading up to a two-day trial set for Wednesday and Thursday, following which Judge Peter Thompson will only have five days to issue a ruling on the matter.
