(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a new legal triumph for the Trump administration, a federal judge has given the president the greenlight to go ahead with the disbandment of USAID, signaling drastic shifts in how the U.S. engages with the world.

This significant decision could radically alter American foreign aid programs for years to come.
A federal judge allowed the Trump administration to terminate nearly 800 USAID contractors.
These contractors were primarily stationed in high- and middle-income countries such as the U.S., Moldova, and Thailand.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols supported the administration’s efforts, stating the firing did not cause irreparable harm.
Nichols’ ruling follows his earlier decision against a USAID union that opposed the termination of over 2,000 direct-hire employees.
USAID Deputy Administrator Peter Marocco highlighted that these positions were inconsistent with the agency’s mission.
This underscores a broader Trump agenda to restructure or dismantle key governmental bodies, Newsweek notes in a report.
Attorney Carolyn Shapiro argued these terminations caused significant hardship.
However, Nichols determined any damage could be remedied financially.
Justice Department attorney Michael Clendenen argued that contractors lacked statutory protections, aligning with the administration’s restructuring plans.
The decision is part of Trump’s broader efforts to restructure USAID, with reports of Elon Musk’s involvement through the Department of Government Efficiency.
Nevertheless, the administration did face setbacks, such as a Supreme Court ruling that required the disbursement of $2 billion in foreign aid.
A notable contrast exists as a federal judge blocked Trump from firing NLRB board member Gwynne Wilcox, which violated federal law.

This reflects ongoing legal battles surrounding various Trump administration policies.
These cases span from immigration to federal worker layoffs and transgender rights.
Despite numerous lawsuits filed by Democrat attorneys general, federal workers, and labor unions, Trump’s administration stands firm.
Temporary rulings have been issued, but only two concerning federal worker firings have been made permanent.
The administration continues to defend its policies in court.
