(TheIndependentStar.com) – Two years after rekindling their romance and getting married, Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are calling quits as Lopez filed for divorce.
The couple, famously dubbed “Bennifer” during their first relationship in the early 2000s, reignited their love nearly two decades later.
Yet, according to U.S. media outlets, JLo took steps to end their marriage, filing divorce papers in a Los Angeles court.
This would mark the fourth marriage for the 55-year-old singer and actress and the second for 52-year-old Oscar-winning actor and film director Affleck.
The pair originally met in 2002 while filming the much-criticized movie “Gigli.” Their relationship quickly became a media sensation, leading to an engagement. However, they postponed their 2003 wedding and ultimately called it quits in early 2004.
Additionally, “Bennifer” made headlines again in 2021 when photos of them together began to circulate online. “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance,” Lopez said in an interview at the time.
They announced their engagement in April 2022 and married in Las Vegas that July. The following month, they celebrated with a grand ceremony at Affleck’s sprawling estate in Georgia.
Moreover, the couple reportedly purchased a $60 million home in Los Angeles last year, but rumors of marital strife began circulating earlier this year.
Fans noted that the “Jenny from the Block” singer celebrated her 55th birthday last month without Affleck. TMZ reported that they had sold their shared home, with Affleck moving into a luxury bachelor pad.
In turn, People magazine suggested that their differences in handling fame might have caused tension.
“She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world,” an unnamed source told the magazine. “He is more introspective and private. This has been difficult day-to-day.”
Additionally, Lopez has been previously married to actor Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme. Affleck was married to actress Jennifer Garner, and they share three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
