(TheIndependentStar.com) – A holiday drone show in Orlando turned into a nightmare for one family when a malfunctioning device seriously injured a 7-year-old boy.

During the third annual Holiday Drone Show at Lake Eola Park in Orlando, what was meant to be a festive display of holiday-themed designs became complete chaos.

Several drones collided mid-air in a shower of debris that fell onto the unsuspecting crowd of around 25,000 people below.

The victim, a young boy named Alexander, was struck by one of the falling drones. He sustained injuries so severe that he now requires open-heart surgery.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the cause of the drone malfunction.

Alexander’s mom, Adriana Edgerton, said, “This should not have happened, and no family should be going through this. We were trying to watch a show and have a good time.”

“Everyone’s natural instinct was to duck and scatter, and before we realized it, my daughter found my son on the floor unconscious. He had blood coming out of his face,” she added.

Sky Elements Drones, a Texas-based company that claimed to prioritize safety and compliance with FAA regulations, organized the drone show.

Yet, their drones still malfunctioned, causing serious harm to an innocent child.

Following the accident, the city of Orlando canceled a second scheduled show due to “technical difficulties.” However, this decision came too late for young Alexander and his family.

Adriana has emphasized the need for increased safety precautions at large events. Her family’s ordeal serves as a wake-up call for all Americans who value the safety of their children.

“The blade cut his mouth, but there’s an actual imprint of the drone on his chest,” Adriana explained.
