(TheIndependentStar.com) – Signaling a tighter race than Democrats predicted after forcing Joe Biden out of the presidential ticket, Pennsylvania may make or break the 2024 election.
NBC political commentator Steve Kornacki sounded the alarm on “Meet the Press,” noting that voter trends signal a troubling shift for Democrats in the state.
Specifically, Kamala Harris’ campaign could face significant challenges there due to shrinking voter registration numbers and a loss of Hispanic support.
Once a Democrat stronghold, Pennsylvania has seen the party’s voter registration advantage decrease from over 900,000 in 2016 to just 330,000 in 2024.
Kornacki explained, “There’s been a little bit of a boost for Democrats since Kamala Harris took over in registration, but the big picture trend has been more competitive for Republicans in party registration.”
Both Trump and Harris remain in a tight race within swing states. Harris may lead nationally, but Trump shows strength in key battlegrounds like Georgia and North Carolina, and Pennsylvania remains tied.
Kornacki highlights the strategic pressure on Democrats to outperform in major counties, especially around Philadelphia, to achieve electoral success.
Despite her popularity with suburban and college-educated voters, these demographic changes could spell trouble for Harris.
Trump’s growth in rural and Hispanic areas contrasts sharply with Harris’s challenges.
The shift is particularly noticeable in Pennsylvania’s “Latino belt” cities like Reading, Hazleton and Allentown, where Democrat vote margins have significantly declined.
Kornacki predicts Trump can successful get 270 electoral votes by winning Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
He stated, “If Trump gets Georgia, where he leads in the point average by a point and a half…the only one of these battleground states Trump carried four years ago…that’s important for him and for Democrats the importance for blocking that path for Trump in Pennsylvania.”
With both parties needing an overhaul in their strategies, the outcome of the 2024 election remains unpredictable, pointing to a possible repeat of Trump’s previous electoral victories.
