(TheIndependentStar.com) – Increasing the pressure on the GOP ahead of this year’s election, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is facing a significant turnover in his senior staff, as another key member is quitting from his office.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Speaker Johnson Raj Shah’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications will soon leave his position.
Shah was among the first to be hired by Johnson after he took on the speakership. Since his hiring in October, he has been tasked primarily with shaping the Speaker’s communications strategy and building the communications team from the ground up.
Upon learning of Shah’s impending resignation, Breitbart News approached him for comment. He did not deny his plans to resign but requested that Breitbart hold off on publishing the story, a request the outlet declined.
Shortly after, Axios published its story, which included statements from Shah and Speaker Johnson.
“Because of the unprecedented circumstances under which I became Speaker, I needed an experienced leader with talent and gravitas to build and drive our message,” Johnson told Axios.
“I am grateful Raj agreed to step up and serve. He has become a trusted advisor and built an incredible communications team. Raj has fulfilled his commitment to us and I wish him continued success,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the communications team that Shah put together has started to disintegrate. A recent departure involved a communications staffer leaving under unclear circumstances.
Furthermore, another source reported that Anang Mittal, who served as the Head of Digital for Johnson, had resigned following allegations of poor performance and unprofessional behavior in the workplace.
Earlier this week, Punchbowl News disclosed that three of Johnson’s senior policy staffers would also be exiting at the end of this month.
“It’s an honor to serve Speaker Johnson, especially through such an historic time,” Shah stated.
“He has shown tremendous leadership navigating the conference through difficult issues. Speaker Johnson has developed an authentic brand of a strong leader willing to make tough calls and place our nation and the institution first,” he concluded.
