(TheIndependentStar.com) – Marking the end of an era for beloved characters like Milhouse Van Houten, iconic voice actress Pamela Hayden retires from “The Simpsons” after 35 years.

See the tweet below.

Hayden, who has been with “The Simpsons” since its premiere in 1989, announced her retirement after voicing characters in nearly 700 episodes over 35 years.

Her most famous role was Milhouse Van Houten, Bart Simpson’s best friend and the epitome of the awkward, nerdy sidekick that resonated with viewers across generations.

The retirement announcement came through “The Simpsons” social media accounts, catching many fans off guard.

The voice actress expressed her decision was made “after much deliberation,” hinting at potential behind-the-scenes changes that may have influenced her choice to step away from the iconic show.

While the show’s creators are celebrating Hayden’s departure and fellow cast members, it raises concerns about the direction of “The Simpsons” moving forward.

The series is currently in its 36th season and faces challenges with aging voice actors and changing character voices.

This shift could alter the show’s dynamic and appeal to long-time fans who have grown accustomed to the familiar voices and comedic timing.

The show’s creator, Matt Groening, praised Hayden’s contribution:

“We named him Milhouse because that was the most unfortunate name a kid could have. Pamela gave us tons of laughs with Milhouse, the hapless kid with the biggest nose in Springfield. She made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss her.”

Meanwhile, Hayden’s final performance on “The Simpsons” will air this Sunday on Fox in an episode titled “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes.”

Beyond the show, Hayden contributed to various “Simpsons” spin-off projects, such as video games and the 2007 feature film.

She also loaned her voice to other animated series, including “Lloyd in Space” and “Hey Arnold!”

“Thanks for 35 years!! Be well and happy. My best to you all. P.S. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses,” Hayden said in a statement.

With “The Simpsons” facing an uncertain future beyond its current season, which is set to surpass 800 episodes, it is crucial to consider the impact of such changes on the show’s cultural significance.
