Four-Year-Old Spends $2,600 on Amazon for SpongeBob Popsicles

(TheIndependentStar.com) – Amazon makes it incredibly easy to buy almost anything with just a few clicks, which is perfect when the need for retail therapy hits. That must have been exactly how an adorable 4-year-old in New York felt when he went on an expensive shopping spree recently.

Noah Ruiz loves SpongeBob, and when he saw popsicles that looked just like the silly cartoon character, he begged his mother to buy him some. His mom, Jennifer Bryant, had sticker shock when she saw they cost $51 a case. She couldn’t justify spending that much of her monthly budget on 18 icy treats, as she’s currently a prison counselor and graduate student.

The feisty little boy, who has autism, wouldn’t take no for an answer. Soon, three boxes of the treats, totaling 918 desserts and costing $2,618.85, showed up at his aunt’s house. Noah had made the purchase without anyone knowing.

Jennifer was aghast. She had no idea how she would afford this, and when requests from Amazon to cancel the fraudulent purchase only resulted in the company locking her account, she began to worry. A classmate, Katie Schloss, stepped in to help by setting up a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Fellow fans of the yellow sponge began to give. People who read the story and found it delightful also donated, and parents who knew exactly how the mother felt added money. The fund topped more than $14,000 and is still going strong.

Not only will Jennifer be able to replenish her bank account, but she will now also have the chance to send her son to a school specifically for autistic children. The only other concern the 4-year-old’s mother had was where to put all these frozen treats. Unfortunately, most of them melted because, well, who has room for 918 square popsicles in their freezer?
