Fetterman Stopped

US Senator John Fetterman (D-PA)

(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a turn of events involving even his fellow Democrats, first-term US Senator John Fetterman has been stopped dead in his tracks and will now be required to adhere to a specific dress code on the Senate floor following a unique bipartisan intervention.

This week, the US Senate approved the “Show Our Respect To the Senate” (SHORTS) resolution, a move that Breitbart News described as “a rare bipartisan milestone.”

This new legislation revisits the Senate’s traditional dress code, a response to an incident in September when Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) chose to suspend the customary dress guidelines.

The change was made “in deference to Fetterman” due to the Pennsylvania senator’s habit of wearing shorts and sweatshirts to reflect his “working-class persona,” as the report mentions.

The change introduced by the Senate Majority Leader faced opposition from members of both parties.

“[Schumer’s] decision is apparently connected to the desires of Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who enjoys parading around in gym shorts and a hoodie. Why would his desires receive such precedence?” inquired Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan.

The SHORTS resolution received unanimous support and was jointly sponsored by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT).

“As senators, we should demonstrate a high level of reverence for the institution in which we serve — and our attire is one of the most basic expressions of that respect,” commented Romney.

“I’m proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to call for a return to a level of dress becoming of the Senate,” Romney from Utah further remarked.

A recent incident that fueled the fire was when Fetterman took charge of Senate proceedings dressed in shorts and an oversized shirt, as The New York Post highlighted.

This prompted a humorous remark from Republican US Senator Susan Collins of Maine, suggesting she might appear on Capitol Hill in a bikini.

Most of the Senate’s GOP members penned a letter voicing their disapproval of Schumer’s alteration to the dress code.

The SHORTS resolution dictates that male senators on the Senate floor should wear “a coat, tie, and slacks or other longer pants.”

In a humorous rebuttal, “Fetterman responded by mocking the Senate, posting a meme with a photo of Kevin James [as] Doug Hefferman, a fictional working-class hero on the TV series King of Queens who wore shorts as a delivery driver,” as mentioned by Breitbart.
