On Wednesday (April 19), Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) endorsed former President Donald Trump’s 2024 White House Bid, which came a day after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) met with House Republicans in Washington.

In a statement announcing his endorsement, Buchanan explained that if voters wanted to “get [the U.S.] economy back on track,” Donald Trump would be the “guy to get it done.”

The Florida Republican noted that Trump had cut taxes and protected U.S. borders, and promoted America-first trade deals before and would do again.

According to a source close to Buchanan, the Florida Congressman has been invited to dinner at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday (April 20) evening, with the former President giving him a personal call to extend the invite.

Buchanan, who leads Florida’s delegation, is the latest Republican from the Sunshine State to endorse the former President, although their home state Governor appears likely to field a rival Presidential candidate.

So far, seven of Florida’s 20-member Republican delegation endorsed Trump, including Buchanan and Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Cory Mills, Anna Paulina Luna, John Rutherford, and Greg Steube.

However, one member – Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.) – announced her support for DeSantis on Tuesday. Lee is the third member of Congress to proactively support the Florida governor.

On Tuesday (April 18), after meeting DeSantis, Texas Rep. Lance Goodman (R) also announced his support for Trump.

Taking to social media, Goodman tweeted after meeting DeSantis, who he believed has done a “commendable” job in Florida, shared he has “no doubt that President Trump is the only leader who can save America” from the attacks we currently face from the left.
