Relying on conventional wisdom and a sprinkling of faith, Democrats believe that President Joe Biden can defeat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election based on the idea that he has already done it before.
Trump’s Republican primary challengers, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, believe that emphasizing the belief that Trump would beat Biden is crucial in persuading GOP voters to choose a different candidate after nominating Trump twice.
A recent NBC News poll released on Sunday (June 25) indicates that Biden is leading Trump. Biden has received 49 percent of the votes to Trump’s 45 percent.
However, this lead falls within the poll’s margin of error and is significantly lower than the ten percentage point lead Biden had in NBC’s previous poll before the 2020 election.
The survey also revealed that DeSantis is tied with Biden at 47 percent, despite trailing Trump in GOP polls.
Despite Biden and his team’s confidence, some Democrats are concerned that Trump has a strong chance of reclaiming the Oval Office.
Former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio noted that Democrats who believed there wasn’t a chance Trump Could beat Biden had their “head buried in the sand” and were “living in a world of delusion.”
In the 2022 Senate race against JD Vance, Ryan was unsuccessful in gaining support from Trump-friendly voters.
In 2022, Mandela Barnes, who ran against Republican Sen. Ron Johnson in Wisconsin and lost by 25,000 votes, suggested that Democrats in battleground states should promote Biden’s accomplishments and take an offensive stance.
According to most Democrats, they think that Biden has a better chance of winning against Trump compared to other Republican candidates because Trump’s strengths and weaknesses are already well-known.
