They will not back down.
After a court ruled that former President Donal Trump and two of his children must testify under oath in an investigation led by the New York Attorney General’s office, New York AG Leticia James took to Twitter to celebrate.
In a tweet, James wrote, “Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump must all comply with this court order and testify before my office within 21 days,” before adding that, “No one is above the law.”
Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and the former President have been ordered by Judge Arthur Engoron to comply with subpoenas James issued in December. In the order, the Trump’s will have to sit for deposition within 21 days.
Engoron issued the order after a two-hour hearing with AG office lawyers and lawyers for the Trumps.
In his decision, the New York Judge wrote, “In the final analysis, a State Attorney General commences investigating a business entity, uncovers copious evidence of possible financial fraud, and wants to question, under oath, several of the entities’ principals, including its namesake. She has the clear right to do so.”
After James filed subpoenas seeking testimony and documentation from the Trumps “in connection with the valuation of properties owned or controlled by Donald J. Trump or the Trump Organization,” the Trumps responded by filing suit, accusing James of abandoning legal tenets to pursue the former President and his family as she viewed Trump as a “political opponent.”
