(TheIndependentStar.com) – Just days after President Donald Trump gave him a second chance, an Indiana man was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop.

Specifically, the president recently pardoned Matthew Huttle for his role in the January 6 Capitol protest.

The incident took place when a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy encountered Huttle during a traffic stop on S.R. 14.

What should have been a routine procedure quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation. According to state police, Huttle resisted arrest and was found to have a firearm.

The situation rapidly deteriorated, leading to an altercation between Huttle and the deputy.

In the heat of the moment, the officer discharged his weapon, fatally wounding Huttle. The tragic outcome has left many questioning the circumstances that led to this turn of events.

Huttle’s involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot had previously landed him in legal trouble.

He had pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building and was sentenced to six months in federal prison.

However, he was among the over 1,500 individuals pardoned by Trump on the first day of his second term.

“He is not a true believer in any political cause. He instead went to the rally because he thought it would be a historic moment and he had nothing better to do after getting out of jail,” said defense attorney Andrew Hemmer.

While celebrated by some as an act of justice, the pardon raised concerns among Capitol police officers and political violence experts.

Sheriff Patrick Williamson expressed condolences to Huttle’s family and acknowledged the traumatic nature of the loss.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases.

The Indiana State Police have been called upon to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
