(TheIndependentStar.com) – Despite facing several crises affecting their everyday lives, consumers received rare, good news this week as gas prices dropped again.
The average price per gallon is now about five cents lower than it was a month ago.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the United States fell to $3.459 this week.
This is a slight drop from Tuesday’s price of $3.462 per gallon and also cheaper than the price a week ago.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, gas prices remain a key issue.
With Joe Biden not seeking reelection, Kamala Harris, now the likely Democrat nominee, must outline her strategy for tackling the nation’s high gas prices and energy costs and their impact on the economy and personal finances.
Although prices have been up and down in 2024, they have decreased in recent weeks and months.
Yet, gas prices are still notably higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.
Additionally, gas prices differ widely from state to state, especially in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the nation’s capital was $3.70.
This increased from $3.698 the day before. Regular gas is also more expensive in Washington, D.C. than a week ago, when the average price was $3.692 per gallon.
Prices are slightly less costly now than a month ago when drivers in Washington, D.C., paid $3.716 per gallon.
